Our Story
BlackFern Design was born of our commitment to beautiful products that do more than look and feel good. Our pieces streamline and enhance the everyday spaces where we live, work, and play. Trained in the fine arts and raised working alongside his father as a commercial contractor, founder Justin Andrews discovered his passion for furniture design and fabrication at the intersection of art and construction. Justin has worked as a custom furniture maker in California and Massachusetts, where he currently lives in Cambridge.
Justin is a certified Tamarind Master Printer and has worked as a collaborative fine art lithographer with artists from around the world. Upon graduating from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a degree in printmaking, Justin completed the Printer Training Program at the Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was selected to work as the Institute’s Senior Printer the following year, printing limited edition lithographs with visiting artists. Justin’s background in the fine arts and technical rigor of lithography inform his commitment to innovative, functional design.
